The series will provide participants with an understanding of fundamental compliance and performance related roles and responsibilities of directors in a club setting. Specifically, the series will cover director duties and responsibilities, risk, strategy and financial performance.
These sessions have been recorded and available to participants for self-paced learning for 18 months. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, and AICD has offered to waive the AICD joining fee for participants who choose to become an AICD member (membership fees are additional).
Session 1: Duties and Responsibilities of the Not-for-Profit Director
This session covers:
- the purpose and essential features of corporate governance; the role and key functions of the board and its directors;
- key duties, responsibilities and rights of directors; corporate, board and organisational culture;
- the role of the chair;
- the potential liability of directors; and
- the balance between the compliance and performance roles of the board.
Session 2: Strategy for the Not-for-Profit Director
This session covers:
- tools and techniques to develop strategic insight and foresight
- identifying and mitigating risks in strategy implementation;
- practical tips on cultivating a strategic board; and
- establishing criteria to measure the success of strategic initiatives.
Session 3: Risk for the Not-for-Profit Director
This session covers:
- the board's role in overseeing risk;
- defining risk appetite and tolerances and their importance for not-for-profit organisations;
- using the risk framework to inform board decision making;
- the link between strategy and risk management, risk culture and effective leadership; and
- the importance of assessing the reliability of controls to mitigate risk.
Session 4: Finance for the Not-for-Profit Director
This session covers:
- the major elements of financial statements and the linkages between them;
- how to evaluate the financial performance of the organisation;
- how to assess solvency and understand the implications for directors of insolvent trading;
- the importance of KPls, including financial and non-financial measures; and
- key financial issues for not-for-profit directors.

Bookings are essential for all events to avoid disappointment. All bookings must be paid in full prior to the event.
Cancellation Policy Events and Training:
All cancellations must be made in writing to Clubs Queensland via [email protected]. Your registration will be refunded if cancellation is received in writing at least seven (7) business days before the event. Cancellations made after this time cannot be refunded. As an alternative to cancellation, your registration may be transferred to another person at no cost.
